About project
The Central University of Technology (CUT) recently unveiled a newly furnished library designed specifically for postgraduate students, and Furniture Fair was proud to supply the products that made this transformation possible. Here’s a closer look at the project, from concept to completion.
The CUT library project was aimed at creating a dedicated study area for postgraduate students, ensuring a focused and productive environment. The timeline for the project, from concept to completion, was approximately 4-6 weeks, with installation taking place during student leave to minimize disruptions.
Key design considerations focused on the functional needs of postgraduate students and lecturers. This included accessible study tables where students could work with books, soft seating areas for reading, and strategically placed power plugs for convenience. The products selected were robust, comfortable, and user-friendly, ensuring that they could withstand heavy use while providing comfort during long study sessions.
One of the primary challenges encountered during the project was ensuring the power supply for the power docks. This was managed by collaborating with the end users to provide the necessary electrical infrastructure. Fortunately, the project was not constrained by budget issues, allowing us to maintain high-quality standards throughout.
The success of the library’s transformation was the result of regular collaboration between Furniture Fair, the staff, and the architects involved. Since its completion, both students and lecturers have expressed their satisfaction with the design and functionality of the space, particularly praising the privacy booths and accessible tables.
Furniture Fair supplied a range of products designed to enhance the student experience, including custom-made bookshelves, study tables accommodating wheelchairs, and privacy booths that absorb sound. These features have significantly improved the learning and teaching environment by providing comfort, accessibility, and quiet zones for focused study.
The newly furnished library boasts a modern, European-inspired look, creating a professional yet welcoming atmosphere. This project has had a positive impact on both students and lecturers, and Furniture Fair hopes to continue its involvement in future updates or expansions at CUT. Reflecting on the project, we are proud of the final look and would approach a similar project in the same manner, having learned valuable lessons along the way.
